| A small, shallow bowl-shaped lake without much obvious structure, Sunshine still produces great fishing for walleyes and northern pike. When it comes to walleyes, the lake offers consistent catches of 1 to 3 pound fish throughout the day. The lake's several weedy sections are ideal northern pike habitat, supporting expansive weedbeds of cabbage, lily pads and reeds. Fish in excess of forty (40) inches are regularly caught and for sheer numbers of pike, Sunshine Lake is hard to beat. | |

Without obvious physical structures for walleyes to relate to, fish are widely scattered throughout the lake and can be caught almost anywhere. However, Sunshine walleye relate to very specific depths depending on conditions. Trolling a bottom-bumping rig along depth contours will soon reveal the depth at which fish are holding. Then, using a depthfinder, present baits / lures at that depth (+ or - a foot). The preferred depth will change often and walleyes will regularly congregate along the most distinct breaklilnes - 7 to 12 feet at Sunshine Lake. Surprisingly, the abundant weedbeds, even those in deeper water (6 to 8 feet), did not hold many walleyes - not all that surprising given the number and size of the northern pike there. |
| Live-bait and snelled rigs (Lindy rigs, worm harnesses, Go-Getters) are perfect for both searching out fish and honing in on concentrations. Trolling a 1/8-ounce twistertail jig in 7 to 12 feet of water is still the most effective means of locating walleyes and catching bunches of them. Pike, too, for that matter. Minnow-imitating crankbaits and small spinners can also produce good catches. | |
| The number and size of the pike in tiny Sunshine Lake is impressive indeed. Huge pike patrol the breaklines and weedlines, while the lake's many expansive weebeds hold untold numbers of northerns. Large pike are caught just as often while walleye fishing, so don't limit your pike fishing to the weeds. Check out the perimeters of pad beds, strain the many deep cabbage weedbeds, and work the edges of the reed banks. Finally, speed troll the major breakline and out from the creek immediately across the lake from the outpost. | ![]() |
| Spoons, spinnerbaits, in-line spinners (Mepps), body baits, topwater plugs, buzzbaits and jerkbaits are ideal lures for casting or trolling approaches. Vary retrieves and trolling speeds to find the most aggressive fish. | |
