Pym Island
Attawapiskat River

Pym Island outpost

The Attawapiskat River is well known among serious pike fishermen across North America. Its waters flow more than halfway across Northern Ontario to Hudson Bay and the river is home to both trophy pike and walleye - a combination rarely found elsewhere.

Guide Harry Baxter is a long-time friend and trusted partner of Hearst Air. His knowledge of the river is unsurpassed and his passion for sharing this fishing hotspot is immediately evident and appreciated by the anglers he guides. Having an experienced guide on the Attawapoipskat River is a real asset to anyone wanting to experience the best of the Attawapiskat - and strongly recommended.

However, you may choose a non-guided trip to Pym Island in which case the staff at Hearst Air will thoroughly go over a map of the river, pointing out key spots, structure, depths and boating hazards so as to avoid accidents and / or damage to equipment.

The river offers all types of waters. Choose from calm bays or fast flowing rapids. Calm pools located throughout the river hold numerous walleyes 5 lb& up. There are many tributaries flowing into the Attawapiskat River that also provide great fishing. A fishing trip on the Attawapiskat river will amaze even the most discriminating anglers and make them long for more.

The 2-bedroom log cabin on Pym Island is newly built and located 200 miles north of the Carey Lake airbase. It is ideally located to access the best areas of the Attawapiskat River. At the camp, there is a generator for lights and other conveniences as well as a hot shower, making this a "roughing it in style" fishing experience of a lifetime ! Pym Island is the ultimate trophy pike and trophy walleye fishing opportunity !
