Pledger Lake

A huge lake with a little bit of water, Pledger Lake is one of the larger lakes that Hearst Air uses as an outpost camp site - but for good reason. The lake is home to great walleye fishing (especially early in the season when water levels are up) and consistent northern pike action.
Pledger Lake northern A large river, navigable for miles throughout the fishing season, flows into the lake and provides top-notch walleye and pike fishing, even when lake levels drop in the summer. Three creeks that enter, leave or drain the marshes also provide consistent fishing in late season.

Because Pledger Lake has no water over 10 feet deep, fish concentrate early in the season in and just out from the lake's several in-flowing creeks. Later, as the season progresses and lake levels lower, walleyes regroup and scatter throughout the lake's extensive reed banks in just 3 to 6 feet of water. Trolling shallow-diving, minnow-imitating body baits or twistertail jigs is an effective approach for searching out the walleyes. Another way to locate mid-summer walleyes and pike is to enter the river and / or creeks and fish the deeper water there - especially at bends, distinct weedlines and necked-down areas where there is increased current.

Early in the season, those same rivers and creeks concentrate fish and make walleyes easy pickings. Find a good current area, narrows or gravel bar out from a creek, and you will locate walleyes. Travelling upstream will carry anglers to great walleye and pike fishing. The abundant weeds hold pike - big ones, too. Trolling an outside bend / breakline produces walleyes weighing in at 2 to 4 pounds. Letting the current flow of a small creek wash tiny twistertail jigs downstream will put you in touch with lots of walleyes.
